  • A set of models to assess climate of wind, waves, tides and storm surge within Wellington Harbour and (at higher resolution) Chaffers Marina

  • Output from agent-based modelling of Hawkes Bay

  • IF WE ARE AWARDED A CONTRACT: updated version of existing hydrodynamic and tracer dispersal model for Akaroa harbour incorporating tracer sources nearshore

New data will be acquired using high frequency hyperspectral in-situ spectrometers (focused on nitrate-N), multivariable sondes, high frequency turbidity (surrogate for suspended sediment concentrations), and high frequency data derived from analysis of microbial surrogate(s).Historical high frequency hyperspectral data have been acquired from external agencies (with permission limiting the use of these data to in-house assessment and proof of concept assessment, which requires limiting access to these data to named NIWA personnel).Data will be acquired/derived from several locations. These data will be paired with laboratory-measured water quality data (where available), flow data (where available).Ideally these data would be in a database of some sort

  • Multiple data sets will be generated. I am unsure about the details of these datasets at this stage as they will be determined by the task leaders as the tasks get up and going. Two aspects likely to be generated are: Shellfish abundance and sediment data - potentially excel files GIS web portal of recreational fishing boat surveys - intention is to make this data freely accessible to the public

  • A combination of models describing cultural, social, economic and environmental consequences of interventions to manage land and water resources

  • This project is still in the planning stage. If successful, the model will be used to estimate contaminant loads from urban areas in Tauranga.

A higher resolution local version of the Esri Global Ecological Marine Units dataset, a 3D statistical volumetric clustering of the ocean, based on NIWA data. We will be using NIWA Oceanography Data to produce output for the NZ region.https://www.esri.com/en-us/about/science/ecological-marine-units/overview Ecological Marine Units (EMUs) are baseline 3D mapped ecosystems of the ocean that have been classified through statistical clustering. They are published in Oceanography journal https://www.tos.org/oceanography/article/a-three-dimensional-mapping-of-the-ocean-based-on-environmental-data: Sayre, R.G., D.J. Wright, S.P. Breyer, K.A. • MBIE proposal. Output datasets have not been described yet.
