  • A 51-day geophysical and scientific study on the R/V Tangaroa of areas in the Eastern & Central Ross Sea and around Scott & Balleny Islands, Antarctica. The prime objective of the voyage was to collect geophysical data in the Ross Sea and define the coastline of Scott Island and Balleny Islands for LINZ under LINZ Contract No CSP2005-MS10-ANT. Additional survey work had been prioritised by Oceans Survey 2020 working group as a backup to &/or opportunistic basis with the LINZ survey. This work included biodiversity studies for the Ministry of Fishes (MFish), hydrographic survey work for LINZ, marine mammal and sea bird studies for MFish and Department of Conservation (DoC), supplementary geophysical surveys for Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS) and collection of general scientific data such as tidal currents, atmospheric, weather observations, etc. NIWA was supported by MFish under Contract No. ZBD2005-03 to collect biodiversity data while underway and as the LINZ survey plan allowed.
