AllSeaBio benthic invertebrate species database
NIWA's original benthic invertebrate species database (now superseded by Specify). Created in 1995 and replaced in the early 2000s. The original data are stored in an MS Access database. These records with then imported into a DiGIR server for the purposes of publishing in OBIS (Ocean Biogeographic Information System) as part of the Census of Marine Life project. These data can be freely accessed at http://iobis.org

- Purpose
- AllSeaBio (created by Dr Geoff Read) was the first database storing details about benthic specimens stored in the National Invertebrate Collection (NIC) held at NIWA. This database is now inactive as the specimens held in the NIC are now managed by the Specify database. However, there are many specimen records that have not been transferred to Specify, so AllSeaBio represents the only record for many specimens in the NIC.
